MARCH BREAK FUN AND GAMES BY THE FIRE

March Break doesn’t have to mean going away or doing expensive things, it can be a great opportunity to spend time together and get back to the basics. It is a great time for fun and games by the fire.

Does having the kids round the house make you stressed and wonder what you are going to do? Card games are a great way to pass the time and gets children off of their electronic devices. No matter what the age there are so many games that they might like, from Go Fish to Crazy eights, get everyone involved, play a few games and see what is the favorite. Chess or Checkers are another pair of games which are perfect for playing fireside. Even if kids are too young to play themselves, they can watch as older siblings or parents play and have the rules and strategies explained to them. Board games are another family favorite among many people and some of the fondest memories can be created with fun games. Whether it is a classic game like Monopoly or a new game like those in the Tiny Epic series, you family is sure to have a good time.

If you don’t have a lot of board games and don’t want to purchase at he moment call up some friends or post to social media and organize a swap. It is a great way to refresh your library and change things up a bit. Previously enjoyed games are also available at a lot of consignment stores so don’t forget to check those places out too. Just beware of missing pieces or cards before you get too engaged in the game you are playing.

The same goes for books, reading is a great March break activity and again perfect in this cold weather to sit with the family by the Fire. Whether you want to take turns reading to each other or if everyone in the family picks there own book. A little family book club where everyone takes a few minutes to tell each other about the book they are reading is a great way to make reading a shared activity. As with the board games, books are a great item to be shared or reused so put it out there and see who wants to share or trade. Coloring Books are also a great idea. There are plenty of coloring books that the kids will love, but there is also a trend of adult coloring books with more detailed images that are a relaxing way to spend an afternoon by the fire.

Hot Chocolate by the fire might just be one of the tastiest things to enjoy sitting by the fire. Set up a ‘Chocolate Hour’ for the kids to look forward to. Setting it at a certain time will give them something to look forward to and a make it feel more special. Set up an array of treats on your coffee table by the fireplace that creates a pretty presentation that both adults and kids will enjoy. Marshmallows and chocolate chips are old favorites but why not a few gummy bears or something silly that kids might enjoy. Don’t forget the whipped cream! Kids love using the whip cream in a bottle and they can take turns decorating the topping. However, if you want to make your own whip cream that is a great way too. Getting kids involved in how things are made is another activity and whipping cream and sugar together will show them how it’s made and tastes great too.

Don’t let March Madness set in, there are plenty of fun things you can do that don’t break the bank. From Board games to reading by the fire we hope these ideas help you spend some quality time together doing things the whole family enjoys.
